How Do I Get Help?

STEP 1:
Review what we do

We are not able to help in all situations. Please review the list of our departments on our Legal Help page. We cannot help with traffic violations or criminal cases. If you have an issue that we do not handle, you may find additional assistance with your issue by visiting Florida Law Help.

STEP 2:
Apply for services

You may do this by applying online or by calling our office and speaking with an intake specialist.  Our office is not prepared to handle “walk-in” applicants. If you have an emergency, please try to call first. The intake specialist will take the information and determine if Legal Aid may be able to help with your problem.

Apply by Phone
Available Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. excluding holidays. Call us at 561-655-8944.

Apply Online
You can apply online for legal services 24 hours a day. A member of our staff will contact you within five (5) business days to let you know if your application has been accepted or not. Please note that not all of our programs accept online applications, and you should not use the online application if you have an “emergency” or a short-notice situation. If you do not see your legal matter listed in the online application or if you have an “emergency” situation, please call (561) 655-8944 to speak with an Intake Specialist.

STEP 3:
Application review

We will review your application for services, and if it appears that you meet our basic guidelines, an appointment will be made for you with the appropriate staff member.

STEP 4:
Be on time for your appointment

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call the Legal Aid office as early as possible to cancel. This will allow us to contact other clients and help us serve as many people as possible. We will reschedule you for the next available appointment.

STEP 5:
What you should bring

You should bring information about the income and expenses of everyone living in the household, any court papers, leases, or contracts that relate to your legal matter. Also, please bring the names and addresses of the people involved with your problem. A trained interviewer will review and complete your application.

STEP 6:
Notification of our decision

Your application for legal assistance will be reviewed by one of our staff attorneys. Once a determination has been made, we will contact you within 3 to 5 working days. This notification will be to the contact information provided on the application. Completion of an application does not mean that we have agreed to provide you with legal assistance.

No application is denied for reasons of race, sex, creed, color, religion, age, national origin, marital status, disability, or sexual orientation.
