In civil cases — evictions, foreclosures, domestic violence injunctions, custody battles, benefits denials, wage theft — there is no such right. Residents who cannot afford a lawyer often go without one, facing the legal system against landlords, employers, and government agencies that all have attorneys.
Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County exists to close that gap. For more than 75 years, Legal Aid PBC has provided free civil legal representation to low-income residents, protecting their housing, their families, their safety, and their livelihoods.

The Rules Regulating the Florida Bar ask each attorney to render 20 hours of pro bono service annually — or make a financial contribution of at least $350 to a legal aid organization. The Campaign for Equal Justice allows attorneys to fulfill this responsibility through a financial gift to Legal Aid PBC. For those who prefer to volunteer directly, pro bono case opportunities are available in a wide range of civil practice areas.
