Drinks & Dinner on Derby Day
On Saturday evening, May 7, 2016, over 650 members of the legal community together with friends and supporters of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County gathered at the Palm Beach County Convention Center to honor nine attorneys, one law firm, a community volunteer, and the executive director of the Palm Beach County Bar Association at the 28th Annual Pro Bono Recognition Evening. The 12 award recipients were recognized for their extraordinary pro bono contributions in 2015. In honor of the Kentucky Derby being held the same day, the theme of this year’s gala was “Derby.” The band Cultural Whiplash entertained the capacity crowd with a traditional Kentucky Derby song list and a real, live horse represented the Derby winner Nyquist.
The attorneys honored at this year’s celebration included:
Greg Coleman - And Justice For All Award
Robert J. Hauser - Appellate Law Award
Amanda Rae Keller - Civil Litigation Award
Anthony P. Vernace - Community Service Award
Staci Burton - Family Law Award
Holly Tabernilla - Immigration Law Award
Lisa Markofsky and Andy Thomson - Non Profit Award
Maria J. Patullo – Veterans Advocacy Award
The Firm Award was presented to Shutts & Bowen LLP. The recipient of the Special Services Award was Private Investigator Bob Goldberg. The annual Suzanne Foley “Serving Justice” Award, given in memory of Legal Aid’s Former Associate Director of Development, was presented to Patience A. Burns, Executive Director of the Palm Beach County Bar Association.
Emcees for the evening were Michelle Suskauer and Mariano Garcia.
