Legal Aid Society Receives Grant from Honda Classic Children's Healthcare Charities
The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc., is the proud recipient of a $2,500.00 grant from The Honda Classic's benefiting charity, Children's Healthcare Charities, Inc., which has contributed over $4.2 million to nonprofits in Palm Beach County since its inception in 2006.
The funds awarded to the Legal Aid Society will be used to support its Educational Advocacy Project, which provides community outreach, information, and free legal services to children/youth with disabilities and their families and works to ensure that children and youth with disabilities have equal access to education in Palm Beach County. Over 170 Palm Beach County students with mental illness, emotional and behavioral problems receive legal representation and advocacy by Legal Aid Society attorneys each year. The Educational Advocacy Project also provides speakers to train parents and community organizations on students' legal rights under federal and state education laws and trains volunteer attorneys who provide free legal representation to children who are facing expulsion from the school system.
"We are grateful to The Honda Classic and Children's Healthcare Charities, Inc., for their generous assistance," said Bob Bertisch, Legal Aid Society's Executive Director. "Particularly in these trying economic times, these funds mean more than ever in helping to ensure our ability to provide equal access to justice for Palm Beach County's most vulnerable students."
