Legal Aid Celebrates 22 Years of Pro Bono Service

On Saturday evening, May 8, 2010, the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County honored 9 attorneys, a law firm, an accountant and Florida Power & Light for their outstanding pro bono contributions in 2009. Over 600 friends and supporters of Legal Aid gathered at the Palm Beach County Convention Center to attend the 22nd Annual Pro Bono Recognition Evening. The theme of the evening was "MusicalMagic," and guests were dressed in apparel representing their favorite musicals.  All proceeds raised from the annual event are used to provide free legal services to the disadvantaged children, families, elders and individuals living in Palm Beach County.

The attorneys honored at this year’s celebration included:

  • Alan Crane - Bankruptcy Law Award
  • Tammy Fields - Non-Profit Award
  • Christine D. Hanley & Associates - Firm Award
  • Gary Kovacs - Real Property Award
  • Terry Resk - Appellate Law Award
  • Moria Rozenson - Juvenile Law Award
  • Michael Stern - Emeritus Award
  • Allen Tomlinson - Civil Litigation Award
  • C. Debra Welch - Family Law Award
  • Victoria Vilchez - And Justice for All Award

The first Corporate Counsel Award was presented to Florida Power & Light Group and was accepted by Charles Sieving, General Counsel, and attorneys Robert Sendler and Ellen Malasky. The Special Service Award recipient was Matthew Stohlman, CPA. The 2nd Annual Suzanne Foley "Serving Justice" Award, given in memory of Legal Aid’s Associate Director of Development, was presented to former staff member David Begley, who was recently appointed a Social Security Administrative Law Judge.

Entertainment was provided by Dreyfoos School of the Arts, under the direction of Garry A. Lewis. Emcees for the evening were Bill Bone and Michelle Suskauer.
