May 15, 2017 - This April/May issue of the Buzz focuses on Legal Aid’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC). This program was established in January 2005 with funding from the Taxpayer Advocate Service, a branch of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Over its twelve year history LITC staff have successfully advocated for and resolved hundreds of controversies between the IRS and low-income taxpayers. Here are comments from two previous LITC clients:
“I wanted to write you letting you know how much I appreciate your help with all of this tax stuff. I feel so much better and my stress level has gone down. My mom and I just wanted to say that we are very impressed with your speed in getting this taken care of “ – RN
“I wanted to thank the Legal Aid Society for your invaluable assistance and empathetic service. The staff at your tax clinic assisted my sister with stopping garnishment of her Social Security Disability benefits. The Legal Aid attorney was polite with the IRS agent on the phone but made it clear that any garnishment could not be tolerated. Since the garnishment threat has been lifted off her shoulders my sister’s mental attitude and health have dramatically improved” – MJMOur LITC staff are committed to ensuring an effective and efficient resolution of our client’s tax issues.
