The Consumer Advocacy Project Strives to Protect Clients From Fraudulent Consumer Practices

January 23, 2017 - Happy New year to you, your families and loved ones and best wishes for a prosperous and healthy 2017.

Our January “Buzz” highlights one of Legal Aid’s newest projects which provides critical legal services to our client community.  The Consumer Advocacy Project was establised in 2016 with a grant from the Office of Florida’s Attorney General from funds generated as a result of a settlement with Chase Bank USA.  Additional monies from cy pres awards from the firms of Greenwald Davidson Radbil PLLC and Liggio Law have also been used to enhance the project.

Project staff target low-income individuals and families in our county who have been victims of fraudulent, unfair and deceptive trade practices, creditor harrassment, identity theft, and other illegal activities.

This month’s Client Spotlight demonstrates the tragic consequences identity theft can have on the financial security and personal well being of those who become its unwilling victims, like Francis Sanders.

We, at Legal Aid, strive on a daily basis to protect our clients from fraudulent consumer practices.
